 Karatsu prospered as a castle town of the Karatsu castle at the beginning
 of the Edo period and the beautiful rows of historic houses still remain
 at any place.
 Karatsu is also famous for its porcelain, along with Arita and is specialized
 in tableware.

 In the area are many nature-rich places to visit, like Niji-no-matsubara
 with a Japanese black pine forest arcing 5 kilometers from east to west
 along Karatsu Bay.
 Nanatsu-gama is known for a row of sea-eroded caverns created by the
 raging waves of the Genkaki-Nada is another place worth visiting.

 
 One of the most famous festival in Saga-ken is Karatsu Kunchi held on
 November 2 to 4.
 Arita, the birth place of porcelain in Japan
 Arita is the birth place of porcelain with 400 years of history, the
  traditions and technologies of making it have been transferred by many
 potteries including Kakiemon pottery.

 
Arita porcelain festival
is held in the street between JR Arita and
 Kami-arita stations from April 29 through May 5 every year, you can find
 nice and cheep porcelain.


 Must visit attractions are Tozan Shrine, Arita Porcelain Park and
 Kakiemon Pottery.
 Karatsu, the region of Karatsu ware with trace of castle town
 Saga-ken

 
 
Saga-ken is located in the northwestern part of Kyushu.
 The shoreline of the Higashi-Matsu-ura-hanto Peninsula facing
 the Genkai-Nada is a saw-toothed coast with many outlying islets
 sitting in the offing.

 In this region are many natural rich places to visit, such as
 Nijino-Matsubara and Nanatu-gama.

 The western part of the Saga-ken is a region famous for producing
 ceramics and porcelain, particularly the towns of Arita and Karatsu.

 Karatsu is also the town, which prospered as a Castle town of  
 Nabeshima lord.

 
 More destination, Yoshinogari-iseki is the name of a large and
 complex Yoshinogari archaeological site used between the 3rd
 century BC and the 3rd century AD.
